Final Dates TBA Soon!

English Language With Some Thai Translation Available

Hosted at Pun Pun Center in Mae Taeng, North of Chiang Mai

This workshop is for women by women.  It’s a chance to learn earthen building techniques, organic gardening, seed saving and cooking.  It’s a chance to get hands-on experience in a supportive environment and learn from other women who have started their own projects and exchange with them on their experiences.

For the past several years we have been hosting women’s natural building workshops together with the International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice (IWP).  IWP is a feminist organization working with grassroots activists on sustainable strategies for social change by integrating feminism, nonviolent action and spiritual practice. IWP and Pun Pun are a perfect match for women’s building courses, bringing together feminism and natural building, as well as a belief that work and play should always integrate the building of community.

The purpose of these workshops is to create a space where women can learn together with and from other women and empower themselves to realize they can create their own homes and spaces together.  This will be our 11th all women’s build, as we’ve now done seven other workshops in Northern Thailand, two in Burma and one in the Philippines.

We’ve decided this year to open the topic wider to include other aspects of sustainability and include other women leaders in the movement in Thailand to share their experience, whether that be on organic farming, seed saving, starting your own homestead/artist residence space/retreat center, etc!  We feel we ourselves have learned so much and been so inspired by these women, we’d love to share their experiences with all of you as well.

So we’ve expanded the course to not just include earthen building but also other topics.  We’ll still be doing a building project together, where you will learn to make your own natural, affordable, and beautiful home from this flexible and readily available material, earth.

Join us! And bring your mother, your lover, your sisters, daughters, and friends!

Open to women of any age in any physical condition who have a desire to get muddy and build something spectacular and learn from others, supported by other women.

General Schedule

Morning and afternoon sessions will be held with an extended break after lunch in the hot part of the day.

The Project

The course will be held on our center, which is an organic farm, seed center, and sustainable living learning center. We started the farm in 2003 and work to create a seed center to preserve our food biodiversity, grow food organically for ourselves in community and for those who come to stay with us, and host trainings and workshops on ways to convert to more self-reliant, sustainable ways of living.

The building site will be nearby at a new homestead project.  We will drive participants to the site those days.  Other day-trips will also be included and there is one rest day.  We will all stay, eat, and live at Pun Pun farm.

Various community members from Pun Pun farm and IWP, as well as other women community leaders.

Living situation

We will provide accommodation in one of Pun Pun’s earthen or bamboo guesthouses. A thin futon mat, blanket, sheet, pillow, and mosquito net will be provided.  Accommodation is single rooms, shared rooms and dorms.  All accommodation is in close proximity to each other.  Outdoor toilets and cool or solar hot showers are close to the guesthouses.

All meals will be shared and eaten in the communal kitchen.  Vegetarian and fish options will be available and we will try to use the most organic vegetables as possible from the farm.  Food will be simple Thai food with brown rice.  We try to use as much of our own produce and other seasonally available produce as possible so we tend to focus on a primarily vegetable and whole grain diet with added protein from eggs, fish, or tofu.

14,000 baht/person.  This fee includes pick-up and drop-off in Chiang Mai on the first and last day of the course, all food during the course, accommodation and instruction.  We ask for a little extra for this fee to include transportation costs to various other projects for exchanges.  All proceeds go towards supporting Pun Pun community to grow and continue with our seed center and outreach work.

Each course will have approximately 15-20 participants.  Participants will also be asked to engage in helping with light community work on the farm.  This may be help in watering the gardens, helping with breakfast or other meal cooking rotations, etc.  We do this to help participants to immerse themselves with the Pun Pun community as well as to help to experience more of our philosophy on self-reliant living.

We have children at the farm and share our meals and community space together so be aware that there is a general level of activity and noise in public spaces.  We ask all participants to refrain from any illegal drug use at Pun Pun or excessive drinking.

1) Email your participant survey to punpuncourses@gmail.com. (see below for details).

2) Once you have sent your participant survey and have been confirmed, a 7,000 baht non-refundable deposit is due to secure your spot. This payment will go towards your payment for the course.  Please understand we cannot hold your spot until we receive your deposit.

We ask you transfer this to our Thai account of which we will send you the details.  The remaining fee will be due on the first day of the course in Thai baht or if you chose you may transfer the whole amount beforehand.
